would it kill photoshop to just paste the thing i cut in the same location like. cmon. where else would i fucking want it half the time i do this to put it on a new layer if i didnt want it to be in the same location i would just MOVE THE SELECTION

ctrl+shift+v

youre welcome

ok I did some fiddling with that method and for CS2 (I’m guessing it’s different for non-ancient versions from the other comments) ctrl+shift+v still shifts the pasted object slightly if your selection isn’t either exact or centered (and also creates a layer mask out of that selection)

alternately, you can select the area, duplicate the layer (drag the layer to the new layer button), inverse the selection (ctrl+shift+i), and press delete to get rid of everything you don’t want—if you go to the original layer and delete the original selected area it’s also a good method for separating parts of a drawing onto different layers

For Windows.

My friends and I occasionally have this problem so I’ve taught them this simple method that takes less than a minute as opposed to waiting several for your computer to restart(especially if it’s slow).

What’s great about this method is that sometimes restarting your computer wont fix the problem, but this usually will.

MAKE SURE YOU CLOSE ALL YOUR ART APPS.

This is important, otherwise the changes wont take effect. If it doesn’t work the first time, try again, sometimes it takes restarting it more than once.

For Windows 8, search for “services.msc” in your apps and click on the result. Continue from there!
